Waterford Airport
Waterford, CT
Waterford, CT
Waterford Airport has been abandoned since 1988. As of 2011, the site is under development, but how much of the original airport that remains hasn't been determined at this time.
I originally found out about this place from some website that called it the "Abandoned Waterford Neighborhood" because they didn't know what it was. Of course, after the death of like AOL Hometown and Geocities and all that, I have no idea what happened to that site that led me to this one. OH WELL, it's not like they knew what it was. And we didn't either, even after we visited.
There was something in that other site's pictures that looked so very familiar, so in the middle of Christmas shopping in 2004, Zack and I poked around Waterford while we still had daylight. First, we found some kind of underground room (later determined to be what was left of WNLC).
And shortly thereafter, we found our neighborhood, complete with deer corpses! It was so Silence of the Reindeer. (We had gone home and watched Rudolph while drawing comics and realized there's a Clarice in both, I think. haha)
About a month or so later, we discovered by looking at an aerial map of the location, that it very clearly was the old Waterford Airport. Even though the runways had been torn up in the 90s, their outline is still clear from the sky.
Revisited in 2006.
